  1. CALIFORNIA - FS Announces Launch of Over-Snow Vehicle Use Designation Analysis on Five Forests

    The Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5) of the U.S. Forest Service will soon begin environmental analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) based on Subpart C of the Travel Management Rule. Five national forests in California are undertaking Subpart C analysis to improve their management of over-snow vehicle use and to designate a system of areas, roads, and trails, including groomed trails, for over-snow vehicle use.     ELKO, NV (October 29, 2014) -- Grant Gerber, a long-time advocate for public access to public lands (and a true cowboy of the open range), passed away recently. "He [is] remembered for dedicating his life to fighting for local rights against federal encroachment," read the story in the Elko Daily Free Press, the local newspaper for Grant's hometown.   3. NEVADA - BLM Hosts Public Meetings for the Draft RMP/EIS Las Vegas and Pahrump Field Offices

    As part of the draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) and draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Las Vegas and Pahrump Field Offices, the Bureau of Land Management will host five public meetings the first two weeks of November.     November 3 - Laughlin Library, 2840 South Needles Hwy, Laughlin November 5 - James I.   5. CALIFORNIA & NEVADA - Tahoe NF to Host Open Houses on Forest Roads Analysis

    The Tahoe National Forest will host two public open houses in October to discuss the forest roads system and look at the relationship between roads and various resource impacts. The open houses are part of engaging the public in Subpart A of the U.S. Forest Service's 2005 Travel Management Rule. Subpart A is an analysis of the forest's road system. The open houses are an opportunity for the forest to share information and the public to help inform the ongoing analysis.
