The Larimer County 4 Wheel Drive Club (also known as the Mountaineers) was formed in 1966 with a collection of mainly Jeep vehicles. Since that time the club has grown to over 50 members, consisting of every American built four wheel drive vehicle and a few from across the water. Membership activities include a monthly meeting, a monthly trip, potluck dinners, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, and other events.

The club has been actively involved for over 20 years in trail maintenance, working for public access, and supporting the multiple use concept of our public lands. Members have been involved in cleanup of the North Sand Hills at Walden with the Bureau of Land Management. The Mountaineers have also worked with the Arapaho/Roosevelt National Forests in the U.S.D.A. Forest Service Adopt-A-Road program and the Trail Host Program. Presently the club has adopted the Seven Mile, Kelly Flats/Wintersteen Mesa and Moody Hill/Sheep Creek Roads.

Members have also provided transportation during winter storms for medical personal and supplies. We have been called upon to transport nursing home personnel as well as the Meals on Wheels in conjunction with the Poudre Valley Hospital. We also donate to needy families during the Christmas Season and other times during the year as the need arises.

We are a family oriented group open to all regardless of vehicle or family size. If you are interested in this type of fun and community involvement in the Fort Collins area please call us.
